How Auto Injuries Work
In a car accident, there are several different factors including speed, point of impact, and engagement of safety features (seat belt or airbag) which may influence the type of car accident pain that the driver or passenger in the car will sustain.
When a car is traveling at a set speed and suddenly collides with another object or vehicle, the physical structures of the car are designed to absorb and deflect the majority of the impact away from the human passengers. However, even while car absorbs this impact, the human still continues to travel in the same direction and speed prior to the moment of impact. Once the body comes in contact with a restraint (seat belt, airbag, or other physical structure of the car) it then is whipped backward in the opposite direction and causing injury to soft tissue, bone, and joints.
Types of Auto Injuries
The most common types of injuries sustained during an automobile accident include:
- Spinal disc injuries
- Soft tissue injury (nerve, ligament, muscle)
- Temporomandibular joint injury (TMJ)
- Limb injuries
- Head and brain injuries
